New and improved sports facilities in Hitchin

01-04-2019

The £5 million redevelopment of the new sports facilities at Lucas Lane, Hitchin, home to one of Hertfordshire’s oldest cricket clubs, is now open to members and the public. Also home to Blueharts Hockey Club, the ground hosts new and improved sporting facilities including a first-class, two-storey clubhouse, bar, activity rooms, multi-functional score box, luxury changing rooms, a floodlit all-weather hockey pitch, and parking with improved disabled facilities. Approval was first granted in 2016, Morgan Sindall commenced construction in 2018 and the project was completed in January 2019.

The redevelopment adheres to the design guidelines of multiple sporting codes including The English Cricket Board, England Hockey and the Football Association, to allow competitive matches to be played on site. A scheme also provides green space for more relaxed leisure activities and makes the most of the fantastic local views across Hertfordshire. This is a true community project that keeps sport at the heart of the area and which residents and visitors alike will enjoy for years to come.

“We are hugely grateful for the efforts of those who have worked tirelessly to make our dream a reality” Geoff Edwards, Chair, Hitchin Town Cricket Club
