Hailsham

In a conservation area in the pretty market town of Hailsham, a new Tesco store was always going to be an important local addition to the town. With the involvement of English Heritage we developed a scheme of new shops and a Tesco to reflect the character and history of Hailsham’s rope making heritage.
The store provides a modern play on the clock tower entrance feature as a reference to the tower of the local 12th centenary church and provides flintwork and stone panelling, typical of the town in a contemporary manner.
A sculpture of a figure pulling ropes through the site boundary walls also refers to the sites history.
