Saunders Partnership was appointed to take the Tesco store at Blackley through planning and construction as part of a mixed use development including a library for Manchester City Council.
The Format 25 (3,372 m² gross area) environmental food Store incorporates a number of features which will help to limit energy consumption and reduce carbon emissions.

The use of recycled and low carbon materials during constuction, and features such as rooflights, wind catchers, sophisticated zonal ventilation, more efficient refrigeration methods, renewable energy provision, combined heat and power energy production (CHP), and rainwater harvesting to provide water for toilets combine to deliver a total reduction in carbon emissions of up to 60% compared to a standard Tesco store
The store achieved a BREEAM rating of Very Good, as well as an‘Secure by Design’ accreditation,
