Saunders Partnership were appointed to produce the detail design for this contemporary interpretation of vernacular and the arts and crafts development in Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire.
Known as “Kings Copse” enjoys all the advantages of town and country living, with views of open countryside to the south and easy access to the nearby village centre of Leverstock Green, with its school, library, local shops and village cricket green a short walk away.
The development for Crest Nicholson, consists of 87 dwellings set around a central green, with 30% being affordable. A combination of terraced town houses and two storey houses providing a mix of 2, 3, 4 and 5 bed houses with arches, providing access to on plot parking, and five apartment blocks with one and two bedroom flats.
The development has been designed to the following standards, Building for Life, Code for Sustainable Homes Level 3 for both private sale and affordable and Lifetime Homes being incorporated in all of the affordable homes.
The central open space provides for both informal recreation with landscaped and grass banked sitting areas and children’s play area, with play equipment. Also incorporating Sustainable Urban Drainage to attenuate surface water run-off and prevent the development from adding to local flood risk.
