Celebrating 30 Years Of Architecture + Urban Design

1988. The year that we watched Rainman and Beetlejuice, Rick Astley released “Never Gonna Give Up”, the Winter Olympics were in Calgary, and Saunders Architects were formed.

30 years - so long ago that our youngest team member hadn’t been born!

As to be expected, a lot has changed over the 30 years we’ve been designing buildings and urban spaces. There is increased demand for environmentally friendly buildings: Saunders is proud to have designed the world’s first carbon-neutral retail store for Tesco, incorporating features that are now used as standard in retail stores.

Residents are demanding revitalised urban space where they can shop and enjoy leisure facilities in an aesthetically-pleasing location: we’ve helped regenerate city centres, drawing on local history to inform our contemporary, user-friendly designs.

Our aging population needs accommodation with specialist facilities and access. We employ our experience to design homes that allow independent living and which are simply great places to live.

30 years on, we’re a truly national practice with over 80 team members based in 4 studios around the country. We’d like to say a big thank you to all of our clients and partners from the past 30 years. You’ve all helped to make us the fantastic practice that we are today.

Throughout 2018, we’re celebrating the successes of the past 30 years and investing in our future. Look out for more news and a proper celebration later in year!
